Canadian National Railway reaches tentative agreements with union, averts strike

Canadian National Railway (CN), one of Canada’s two major freight railroads, has reached new tentative collective agreements with Unifor Local 100 and Council 4000, averting a strike that could have started this week. The collective agreements cover approximately 3,000 employees working in various departments such as mechanical, intermodal, facility management, and in clerical positions in Canada.

Unifor announced earlier this month that workers with Local 100 had voted 98% in favour of a strike; those with Council 4000 had voted 97% in favour. The two groups have been without a collective agreement since December 31, 2022.

Details of the tentative agreements have not been released.
