CCS boss set to take IACS chair

Sun Licheng, president of China Classification Society (CCS), will take over from the boss of ABS next week as chairman of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS). Christopher Wiernicki, ABS chairman, president and CEO, will complete his one-year term at IACS at a council meeting in Washington, DC on June 29.

Wiernicki said in a release today getting goal-based standards recognition by IMO and raising the profile of cyber security were two of the things he was most proud about during his IACS tenure.

“We live in exciting and challenging times,” he said. “Successfully navigating converging regulatory, technology and classification evolution requires strong technical leadership, and IACS is firmly on a charted path of success.”
