China’s CDB Leasing has acquired 9,400 teu boxship pair MSC Elma (built 2016) and MSC Romane (2017) from HNA Group’s SinoOceanic Shipping.

CDB has paid $172.78m for the vessels, which will be leased to Conglomerate Maritime Limited, a Guernsey company that is affiliated with MSC. The lease period is 12 years.

MSC’s fleet growth in recent years has been aided greatly by tapping Chinese leasors. MSC has closed the gap with its 2M partner, Maersk, all year but still remains 456,130 slots behind its Danish rival according to Alphaliner data, including orderbooks.
