Chaos hits Technomar bulker as crew threatened by Nigerian stowaways

Four stowaways were arrested by Uruguayan authorities after they menaced the crew of 2011-built bulk carrier Friederike.

The supramax bulker, owned by Greece’s Technomar Shipping, was in South American waters en route from Lagos, Nigeria to Recalada, Argentina, when the ship’s captain sent out a distress call saying that the stowaways – all Nigerian – had mutinied and were threatening members of the crew.

A Uruguayan Navy frigate with a detachment of marines onboard was dispatched to the ship and managed to resolve the issue, restoring control to the captain

The Friederike was escorted to the port of Montevideo where the stowaways were detained.
