China and Russia to jointly build port in Zarubino

Dalian: China’s Jilin province and Russia’s Summa Group are going to join hands to develop a new deepwater port in Zarubino in the Fast East region of Russia.

The proposed port will be located in Trinity Bay, 18 km from the Russian border with China. It will have a designed annual capacity of 60m tons and become one of the largest ports in Northeast Asia.

The port will be used for transportation of grain, containers, bulk cargo and ro-ro units. Total investment on the project will be around $1bn.

The two parties will also collaborate in attracting cargo traffic and promote the development of a bilateral corridor with simplified customs procedures. [11/09/14]
