China Merchants appoints Zhao Huxiang as vice president

China Merchants Group has announced that it has appointed Zhao Huxiang, president of Sinotrans & CSC Holdings, as vice president of the company.

Zhao used to serve various positions in both China Merchants Group and Sinotrans.

China Merchants received approval from the State Council for its proposed acquisition of Sinotrans & CSC Holdings at the end of 2015.

The merger aims to create economies of scale and synergies between the companies in logistics, energy and dry bulk shipping, property development, ports and marine and offshore engineering.

The two groups have already integrated their tanker assets by establishing joint venture China VLCC in 2014.

China Merchants and Sinotrans & CSC have set a transition period of three years for the merger. Within the period, the two groups will not intervene in each other’s business and they will start a full integration of businesses when the period is over.
