China stops work at Yemen oilfield after terror threat

Sana'a: Operations at an oilfield and processing facility in Yemen have been halted after terrorist threats were received by operator Nexen, a subsidiary of China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC).

Nexen shutdown the Block 51 field operations and BAK PF processing facility after the company received the threats from Al Qaeda.

Operations will not resume until the local situation is safe for workers to return, the company said.

Nexen is engaged in developing energy resources in some of the world’s most significant basins including the UK North Sea, offshore West Africa, the United States and Western Canada. The company was acquired by CNOOC in 2013. [22/12/14]
