China to join Venezuelan port projects

Beijing: Chinese companies are expected to participate in the planning and construction of port projects in Venezuela, Luis Antero Rodriguez Guevara, Venezuelan Deputy Minister of Aquatic and Air Transport, said in Beijing.

A project is already underway for the construction of a new container terminal at Cabello, Venezuela's largest port, by China Harbor Engineering Company (CHEC).

Venezuela is currently working on plans to build Cabello into a gateway to South America and the Caribbean region, asking China to assist in the future development of more ports, waterways and an artificial island to make Venezuela a sea transport hub in the region, according to the minister.
