China to launch its first deep-water gas project
Beijing: China is to launch its first deep-water natural gas project next year, using a Chinese-made platform and undersea pipelines.
The Liwan-3 gas field in the South China Sea is expected to commerce operation by early next year and eventually produce about 4% of the nation’s gas supply, more than the current volume of LNG imported from Australia.
Hong Kong billionaire Li Ka-shing controlled Husky Energy operates the projects and owns 49% shares while China’s largest offshore oil and gas producer CNOOC owns 51%t. [15/11/13]
