China’s offshore shipyards asked to submit ‘white list’ applications

Beijing: China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has issued a notice to the shipbuilding industry, asking them to send applications for offshore ‘white list’ inclusion.

According to the notice shipbuilding companies should send the applications to the local shipbuilding authorities, who will review the applications preliminarily before sending them to MIIT. The deadline for applications is August 31.

The central government is hoping the white list can optimize the offshore manufacturing capacity and promote merger and acquisition in the industry, with shipyards on the list enjoying favourable policies from the government and banks.

Last year, the central government also released a white list for the commercial shipbuilding industry.
