Chinese port group invests in Indonesia

Shanghai: Dafeng Port Group in Jiangsu Province will invest up to US$600m to build a ferronickel smelter and a 360 megawatt coal-powered electricity plant in Kendari, capital of Southeast Sulawesi province of Indonesia.

“The smelting plant will produce 200,000 tons of ferronickel alloy a year, ferronickel produced from this project will be an alternative supply for stainless steel producers in China." said Ni Xiangrong. President of Dafeng Port Group

Construction of the plant is expected to be completed at the end of 2013.

Dafeng Port Group is a large state-owned enterprise in Jiangsu Province, it is expected to finish construction of 17 additional berths in Dafeng Port by the end of 2012, and achieve a port throughput of 20m tons.[10/08/12]
