Chios Navigation contracts first newbuild since 2012

Brokers tell Splash that Greece’s Chios Navigation has ordered its first newbuilding in six years, shaking hands with yard representatives from Hyundai Mipo Dockyard for one 50,000 dwt MR tanker. The single vessel is scheduled to be delivered in April 2019 from HMD’s Ulsan facility. No price has been revealed for the tanker.

Chios Navigation has a fleet of eight bulkers and two tankers. The shy outfit has stayed away from maritime headlines for years. It broke cover last August when it readied the sale of  one of its bulkers, a vintage supramax, after an absence of more than three years in the sales and purchase market.
