Norway’s GC Rieber Shipping has appointed Christian Berg as its new chief executive officer commencing mid-August 2017.
Berg fills the role vacated by Irene Waage Basili, who stepped down to remain as the permanent CEO of Shearwater GeoServices the seismic joint venture formed by GC Rieber and Rasmussengruppen.
Previously CEO of Viking Supply Ships, Berg stepped down in October 2016 and has since established Bech Offshore, which now will become part of GC Rieber Shipping. Bech Offshore focuses on investment opportunities related to distressed OSV assets.
Paul-Chr. Rieber, chairman of the board of GC Rieber Shipping, commented: “During 2016 GC Rieber Shipping initiated a restructuring process which has led to the successful establishment of the geophysical company Shearwater GeoServices as a joint venture with Rasmussengruppen. We are still facing both challenges and opportunities, and Christian W. Berg’s background will add valuable competence and experience to our company. With Christian W. Berg at the helm our goal remains to structure GC Rieber Shipping into a competitive and notable operator within the Offshore Segment.”
Acting CEO Einar Ytredal will return to his permanent position as CFO of the company.
