CMA CGM takes four Poseidon boxships on long-term charter

Poseidon Containers, which is in the middle of a merger with Global Ship Lease, has agreed charters with France’s CMA CGM for four of its 6,927 teu containerships.

Mary, Kristina, Katherine and Alexandra have been fixed to CMA CGM for a period of five years, generating around $135m revenue for the company.

Ian Webber, who is the CEO of Global Ship Lease and will lead the merged outfit, commented, “As we near the closing of our strategic combination, we are pleased to announce Poseidon Containers’ signing of these long-term charters with leading container liner company CMA CGM at levels substantially above their prior contracted rates.”

CMA CGM is Global Ship Lease’s largest shareholder and 17 of the company’s fleet of 19 is fixed to the French line.
