CMA CGM takes over OPDR

Marseille: France’s CMA CGM has got the go ahead from the European Commission to take over OPDR. The short sea operator has now joined the French containerline. ODPR, an intra-European player, was with the Bernhard Schulte Group. CMA CGM first made a move for it last November, but for the deal to go through it needed the approval of European and Moroccan competition authorities.

The OPDR fleet sails four trades between North Europe and the Canaries; south of Spain and the Canaries; north Europe, Spain and Portugal; north Europe and Morocco.

“OPDR and MacAndrews capacities combination are in line with the densification of the regional network strategy of the CMA CGM Group,” The Marseille-headquartered firm said in a release today.

MacAndrews was acquired by CMA CGM in 2002. OPDR will be a subsidiary of MacAndrews. In 2014, OPDR transported around 200,000 teu, and MacAndrews more than 230,000 teu.
