CMAC to set up arbitration centre in HK

Hong Kong: In a big boost to Hong Kong’s maritime standing the China Maritime Arbitration Commission has decided to locate its first international arbitration centre outside the mainland in the former British colony.

"Being the sole maritime arbitration institution in Mainland China, CMAC's presence in Hong Kong would further enhance Hong Kong's role in the resolution of maritime disputes, and thereby reinforce our position as a leading centre for international legal and dispute resolution services in the Asia Pacific region," Hong Kong’s Department of Justice said.

CMAC’s goal is to resolve maritime, admiralty and logistics disputes as well as other contractual and non-contractual disputes through arbitration.

CMAC’s other offices are in Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin and Chongqing. [10/11/14]
