CNOOC’s first well in Cambodian waters completed

Beijing: China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) has become the first Chinese company to complete a well drilling in Cambodian waters. No oil and gas has been found in the well, but CNOOC plans more drilling in its licenced area. Five years ago CNOOC was awarded the 7,000 sq km Block F off the coast of Preah Sihanouk and Koh Kong provinces.

Cambodia has awarded six licences so far in the Gulf of Thailand, but none have started extracting oil, although Chevron is believed to be close to starting that process.  [07/12/12
