Colonna’s Shipyard announces $30m upgrades

A venerable ship repair yard in Norfolk, Virginia will upgrade its facilities to the tune of $30m, it was announced on Friday.

The 140-year-old Colonna’s Shipyard is the oldest continuous family-owned and operated private shipyard in the US. It will invest in enlarging its drydock, as well as on dredging and improving the channel and bulkhead.

The upgrades, which will enable the yard to handle larger ships and which should create around 50 new jobs, were announced by Virginia state governor Terry McAuliffe.
