Coming growth in Egyptian exports

Singapore: Expect to see far more container calls to Egypt in the coming years. That was the message from Thomas Riber Knudsen, Asia Pacific boss of Maersk Line, at yesterday’s Sea Asia conference in Singapore. Discussing shifting manufacturing out of China and the growth of near sourcing, Knudsen noted: “Egypt is today probably the lowest cost production place on Earth.” Egypt was mentioned alongside the likes of Turkey, Indonesia and Vietnam as alternative manufacturing centres to China.  [10/04/13]
