Conoco Phillips fixes three AHTSs on same day with 400 percent price differential

Oslo: Three anchor handlers that were fixed in the spot market yesterday to perform the same rig-move were done at prices that varied by 400%, according to Maritime.no.

The Siem offshore vessel, Amethyst, was fixed for NOK69,000 ($9,200) per day for work while K Line’s Sandefjord was fixed at NOK264,000 per day. A third vessel, Olympic Pegasus, was fixed at NOK80,000 per day. Sandefjord was the only ship with ROV.

Inger Louise Molvær at Westshore Shipbrokers told Maritime.no that even if the K Line ship was both newer and larger than the other two, that was not enough to justify the almost four times as high rate compared to the Siem ship.

“We have not seen many opportunities in the market this year – this is an opportunity for those who are brave enough to stick their necks out and charge higher rates,” Molvær said.

In Norway where there have been very few AHTSs free, but rates have not moved upward.
