Containership sinks near Guangzhou Port

Guangzhou: Chinese containership Xin Hong 328 sank near the Shajiao anchorage off Guangzhou Port yesterday.

The vessel was carrying 72 containers from Hong Kong to Nansha port in Guangzhou, when it lost stability due to flooding in the engine room.

All eight crew onboard were rescued. Local authorities sent 4 patrol boats to the scene of the accident to monitor the water for pollution and to regulate the traffic from drifting containers. Work to recover the containers is still ongoing and authorities are now investigating the incident.
