Cosco to install scrubbers on 23 boxships

Cosco Shipping Lines has made plans to install scrubbers on 23 containerships in its fleet to comply with upcoming 2020 IMO regulations on sulphur emissions.

CSIC No.711 Institute will supply scrubber systems for five 19,000 teu ships and eight 14,000 teu ships, while Finnish company Valmet will supply scrubbers for ten 4,250 teu ships.

All the scrubber systems will be installed before the end of this year.

According to Alphaliner, by the end May as much as 16% of the global containership fleet by vessel count and 35.7% in terms of capacity have been equipped with scrubbers.
