COSL adds semi-submersible drilling rig

Beijing: COSL Drilling Europe (CDE), a subsidiary of China Oilfield Services Limited (COSL), has announced that the company has taken delivery of its first new-build semi-submersible drilling rig.

The new rig, COSL Prospector, will be be deployed in the Norwegian Continental Shelf and can work in water depths of around 1,500m and drill wells to a depth of 7,600m.

The rig uses Wood Group Mustang Norway’s (WGMN) GG5000 floating hull design. "The delivery of the rig, as designed, is the result of a highly successful collaboration among WGMN, CDE and Yantai CIMC Raffles Shipyard,” WGMN president Otto Soberg said.

WGMN is providing engineering services for another semi-submersible drilling rig to COSL for its new HYSY982 rig, which is expected to operate in the South China Sea.
