Croatia’s top two shipbuilders eye merger

Financially troubled shipbuilder Uljanik from Croatia has selected compatriot shipyard Brodosplit as its strategic partner in a bid to restructure and survive.

Tomislav Debeljak, president of the Brodosplit, told local media yesterday:”We have the will, know-how, desire, and management capacities to expand.”

Uljanik has been hit by a wave of cancellations and a drop in orders. It has struggled to pay its staff on time resulting in multiple strikes over the past year.
