Crowley seeks Chinese yard to build series of LNG-fuelled feeder ships

Brokers tell Splash American shipping line Crowley has issued a tender to Chinese yards for a bumper series of feeder boxships. Crowley is after three firm LNG-fuelled 1,400 teu ships, each with a high reefer capacity. The tender comes with up to four options.

Jacksonville-based Crowley has a history of ordering on home soil as a Jones Act operator, but has also taken many ships from Asian yards in the past.

American shipping lines are increasingly looking at LNG propulsion to meet incoming regulatory requirements.
