Dalian Maritime University and DSIC to set up autonomous ship lab

Dalian Maritime University (DMU), a major maritime academy in China, is in discussions with Dalian Shipbuilding Industry (DSIC), the flag shipyard of CSIC, on the establishment of a laboratory to develop autonomous ship technology.

The two parties have commenced preliminary talks with an aim to set up the lab with the combination of DMU’s research and development expertise on autonomous shipping and DSIC’s ship construction experience.

Earlier this month, UK-based technology research and innovation consultancy Thetius predicted that China will become the global leader in autonomous shipping by 2025.

China’s autonomous ship development reached a major milestone in December with the country’s first autonomous cargo ship Jin Dou Yun 0 Hao completing its first trial voyage in Zhuhai.
