D’Amico swoops for second leased MR tanker this month

Italy’s d’Amico International Shipping has exercised a second purchase option this month taking back ownership of another bareboat chartered-in MR product tanker.

The Milan-listed firm is adding the 2015-built High Trader to its owned list for a price tag of around $21.6m. The 49,990 dwt ship, VesselsValue estimates as worth 37.3m, will change ownership in July.

D’Amico sold and leased back the vessel in 2018 at a sale price of $27m, pocketing around $8.6m cash after paying off the attached loan.

The Italian owner with a fleet of 36 double-hulled product tankers currently owns 22 ships. In addition to the High Trader, the company expects delivery of the 2016 Hyundai Mipo built High Trust it bought back for $22.2m earlier this month.
