Dangerous haze threatens shipping in western Indonesia

Jakarta: Severe haze across parts of Indonesia is having a damaging effect on shipping.

The haze has spread beyond Riau, reaching neighbouring province Jambi and halted sea transportation along Jambi’s eastern coast.

Ships in the region are being asked to be extra vigilant.

“In January and February, we imposed a total ban on all sea activities because of the haze. We have lifted the ban, but we may reimpose it should the situation continue to deteriorate,” a local official told the Jakarta Post.  [10/03/14]'
