DHT to fit scrubbers on 12 VLCCs

VLCC and aframax tanker owner DHT Holdings has entered into agreements with Alfa Laval to install scrubbers on twelve of its VLCCs.

The scrubbers will be installed on the older vessels in the DHT fleet, those built between 2004 and 2012, with shipyard capacity secured for installation to be completed within 2019.

Newbuildings DHT Bronco and DHT Mustang are already being installed with scrubbers, giving DHT a total of 14 of its 29 tankers fitted with scrubbers by 2020.

“We look at the upcoming IMO Sulphur Cap as an opportunity for DHT rather than a threat. We come well prepared and are very pleased with the timely project we have put in place. This project could potentially create a super-profit for the ships in question and boost the already significant operational leverage in DHT,” the company said in a statement.

DHT says it has received proposals to finance the majority of the project and will conclude a deal in the near future.
