Diamond Offshore semi-submersible pair contracted by Shell

Houston-headquartered offshore driller Diamond Offshore has revealed a pair of contracts for semi-submersible rigs Ocean Apex and Ocean Valiant with Shell in its latest fleet status report.

2014-built Ocean Apex has been awarded a one-well contract by Shell in Australia, with commencement scheduled for August 2019. The contract will be performed in between contracts with Woodside Energy, who have the rig contracted for a two-well programme between May and July and a four-well programme from January 2020.

In the UK, 1988-built Ocean Valiant has been awarded a well-based contract for operations in the North Sea. The rig is expected to start in December 2019, after coming off contract with Total, and will be contracted through to March 2021.

Diamond Offshore also announced overnight a net loss of $79m for 2018, and as of January 1 was sitting on a total contracted backlog of $2.0bn.
