Diana Shipping fixes Newcastlemax and panamax bulkers at discount rates

Diana Shipping has fixed one of its Newcastlemax bulk carriers at a more than 50% discount compared to the vessel’s previous contract, and has found employment for another of its panamax bulkers.

SwissMarine Services has taken Diana Shipping’s Newcastlemax bulk carrier Los Angeles (206,104 dwt, built 2012) for 12 to 15 months at a gross rate of $7,750 per day, minus 5% commission.

The super-cape had previously been earning $18,000 per day on a four-year timecharter to Norway’s EDF Trading. The contract has just been concluded and the vessel has been delivered to the Glencore subsidiary to commence its new charter.

Today, Diana fixed its panamax bulk carrier Danae (75,106 dwt, built 2001) to Copenhagen-based Dampskibsselskabet Norden at a gross daily rate of $4,900 for 11 to 15 months. Commission is charged at 5%.

“The employments of Los Angeles and Danae are anticipated to generate approximately $4.3m of gross revenue for the minimum scheduled period of the time charters,” Diana said today.

Yesterday, SwissMarine fixed Diana’s capesize Seattle (179,362 dwt, built 2011) on an 11- to 14-month timecharter at $7,300 per day, minus 4.75% commission.
