Diligent stays loyal to Japanese hulls

Greek owner Diligent Holdings has added its first handysize bulker acquisition this year after taking a five month break.

Last year the emerging owner made waves when adding three handysize ships in the same age group as now.

The Greek owner is staying loyal to its earlier fleet preference, selecting only Japanese built ships. This time brokers say Diligent has added the 28,500 dwt Clipper Izumo, built in 2010. The ship is listed registered with Shigekuro Shipping but in the care of Northstar Ship Management.

The little-known company was registered a handful of years ago, and had only one ship for many years, but in 2016 it made headlines when it bought three similar sized handies as the Clipper Izumo.

Brokers list the price fetched for the latest ship at $8.6m, which is deemed a bargain by the likes of VesselsValue, the online ship pricing portal.

In the spring of 2016 Diligent benefitted from ultra low bulker values in comparison to this purchase, bagging a 2009-built same sized ship for only $6m.
