Direct Search Asia: More than just spotting talents and filling vacancies

Singapore: A new recruitment firm, Direct Search Asia, has been launched with a special focus on the shipping, marine, offshore and oil and gas sector. Founded by Jason Tay, who was formerly with international HR firm Faststream, Direct Search Asia is made up by a team of specialist recruiters who come from diverse but relevant backgrounds. They used to be seafarers, naval architects, shipbrokers, surveyors, commodity traders, industry experts or experienced recruiters.

With offices strategically located in Singapore and the UK, and potential for a new office on the horizon, Direct Search Asia has set itself big plans to provide recruitment services that cover the global market.

“Recruitment across the years has evolved to more than just spotting talents and filling vacancies for companies,” says Tay.

His approach is, he says, to provide a “specialised, straightforward and no-nonsense” recruitment solution to clients and candidates.

“I see knowledge and relationships as essential to serve the market efficiently from a recruitment perspective,” Tay says.

There should be plenty of business for Tay as latest HR statistics show what an itinerant lot people in shipping tend to be.

“Based on today’s industry standard, employees staying in the shipping and maritime sector have slipped from 2.5 years average to less than two years, which means people stay in their jobs for a shorter period and move around more,” Tay notes.  [27/10/14]
