Disaster as leaking ship proves impossible to handle

Dubai: The Yemeni government has failed to halt the flow of bunker fuel hitting the coast of Mukalla, after a ship lost power last week and started to leak fuel.

The technical teams of the Public Authority for Maritime Transport managed to unload 80 tons of cargo from the Shang Yang, which drifted last week off the coast of Mukalla. It is carrying some 4,700 tons of diesel fuel.

The ship is proving impossible to tow as it has grounded in sands off the coast of Mukalla.  [17/07/13]
