Divers to assess the dangers posed by sunken ferry off Cebu

Manila: Divers will return soon to the site where the St. Thomas Aquinas ferry sank five months ago to determine if it poses danger to vessels passing through the narrow strait of Lawis Ledge in Talisay, Cebu.

The 50 km Lawis Ledge is a passageway used by many ships entering and leaving Cebu.

The Philippine Coast Guard maintains that the submerged vessel remains a potential danger. While it sank some 50 mdeep, clear from passing vessels, the containers onboard the ship are potential risks.

Removal of the wreck will be discussed after the dive.  [03/01/14]
