Dong-A Artemis sale sets very firm threshold for capes

Secondhand capesize prices are spiking fast. Clarkson Research reports South Korea’s Dong-A Tanker looks to have sold a 2012-built cape, Dong-A Artemis, for more than $32m to an unspecified US listed entity that Splash understands is the Restis family linked firm, Seanergy Maritime.

Illustrating how fast cape prices are leaping Dong-A sold two 2011-built sister ships, Dong-A Ether and Dong-A Leto, in January for a price of $44.6m en bloc.

Dong-A has been slimming down its fleet of late, getting rid of a chemical tanker earlier this month and fixing two aframax resales in early February.
