Dredging to bolster shipping to Ho Chi Minh City

Hanoi: Soai Rap waterway leading to Hiep Phuoc port complex in southern Saigon, where Saigon Premiere Container Terminal (SPCT) is located, will open on April 19, cutting the time for vessels to enter the port complex.

The waterway will cut by half the time needed to transport cargo into the port compared to the current passage via the Long Tau River.

Long Tau waterway is 8.5 m deep compared to 9.5 m of Soai Rap. Further dredging will take Soai Rap to 12 m depth eventually, catering top vessels up to 70,000 dwt.

SPCT is the first foreign-invested terminal in Vietnam, able to handle 1.5m teu.  [02/04/14]
