George Economou’s DryShips has picked up its second kamsarmax in a little over a week, confirming the acquisition of a 2014-built kamsarmax bulker for around $24m.
Brokers identified last week’s acquisition as the United Ocean Group vessel United Ocean and this latest acquisition is likely the United Splendour, also from the struggling Japanese company which filed for bankruptcy protection in Tokyo last year.
“We are very excited to have started taking delivery of our previously announced acquisitions and also continue to grow our fleet with a new acquisition of one more modern vessel. The DryShips new era has official started and is expected to be accretive to our earnings and cash flows,” commented Economou, chairman and CEO of DryShips.
The vessel is scheduled for delivery during the second quarter of 2017.
