DSIC wins drillship order

Dalian: In a huge boost for China’s offshore aspirations Dalian Shipbuilding Industry (DSIC) has won a contract for 1+3 drillship order from Norwegian owner Norshore this week.

The contracted vessel is a small-sized, multi-purpose drillship designed for riserless top-hole drilling and well intervention operations in the North Sea.

“DSIC has an overall planning for the offshore business, the group itself is developing drillships and FPSOs, a subsidiary offshore company is dedicated to jack-up rigs and semi-submersible platforms and another subsidiary will be responsible for offshore repair and conversion, all of them together will improve the offshore percentage in the group’s business,” said Yu Fengping, general manager of DSIC.

Drillships stand at the apex of the shipbuilding menu often commanding figures in excess of a half billions dollars each and have until now been the preserve of the big Korean shipbuilders.  [21/09/12]
