Economou scoops Saverys for newcastlemax quartet

Brokers are reporting George Economou has scooped the Saverys family for a quartet of modern Chinese-built newcastlemaxes.

Hunter Maritime Acqusition Corp, the new vehicle created by the Saverys family to bag bulker bargains, had originally taken four 205,000 dwt newcastlemaxes on subjects, but Splash understands DryShips has now swooped for the quartet.

All the ships – Super Star, Moritz Oldendorff, Wish Star and Valley Star – were built between 2013 and 2015 at Yangfan Shipbuilding. Economou is believed to have paid around $121m for the four vessels, some $5.5m more than the original bid tabled by Hunter Maritime.

The four ships were listed on database Equasis as previously owned by Shanghai’s Hong Xiang Shipping.
