Eimskip hit by newbuild boxship delay

Icelandic owner Eimskip has suffered a delay with the delivery of 2,150 teu container vessel Bruarfoss, currently under construction at CSSC’s Guangzhou Wenchong.

The vessel was set to commence sea trials this week, however during preparation for the trial a shaft generator was damaged, which will delay the delivery of the vessel. The shaft generator is made in Europe, and it is estimated delivery will be delayed by six to eight months as a new generator will have to be built and installed.

Delivery of sister vessel Dettifoss is scheduled to take place late in the first quarter of 2020.

The two vessels are part of a new vessel sharing cooperation with Royal Arctic Line, and the delay will put back the commencement of the cooperation to the second quarter of 2020 as the two companies look to charter a replacement vessel in the meantime.
