Emerging Vietnamese tanker player in for another chemical carrier

Emerging tanker player Truong Phat Loc Shipping (TPL) has been linked as the buyer of the Yellow Ray, a small 19,900 dwt chemical tanker built in 2003 at Usuki Zosensho in Japan, according to broking reports.

No price was reported for the sale however VesselsValue.com says the vessel is worth about $15.5m.

TPL, which is based in Vietnam, bought the ship from Eastern Pacific.

TPL will continue to be active in the sales and purchase market as the company’s plan is to have 20 vessels with a total deadweight of more than 300,000 dwt of chemical vessels and capacity of 200,000 cu m of LPG carriers by 2017.

This spring TPL snapped up a vintage VLGC, the 78,500 cu m Gas Scorpio, from Japan’s Astomos. This purchase doubled the company’s fleet size in the VLGC sector.
