Esben Poulsson named president of the Singapore Shipping Association

Singapore: Danish national Esben Poulsson has been appointed as the new president of the Singapore Shipping Association (SSA), succeeding Evergreen’s Patrick Phoon. Poulsson has been a tireless supporter of Singapore maritime for the past 20 years, one of the most high profile foreign champions of the Lion Republic’s relentless growth as a leading shipping hub.

“I hope, during my tenure, to justify the faith the council and membership has placed in me, I look forward to helping to represent our members’ interests to the best of my ability, and to continue our constructive relations with government agencies and other industry partners in Singapore and overseas in promoting and maintaining Singapore’s position as a leading international maritime centre,” Poulsson said.

As well as Poulsson’s commitments to the SSA, the Singapore Maritime Foundation, the International Chamber of Shipping, Epic Shipping, AVRA International and Straits Tankers, the former Torm man is chairman of Enesel Pte Ltd, a Singapore management subsidiary of Athens-based boxship operator Enesel.

Starting out with the Informa Group in 2000 in Hong Kong, Sam Chambers became editor of Maritime Asia magazine as well as East Asia Editor for the world’s oldest newspaper, Lloyd’s List.
