Brussels: A site dedicated to covering EU policies has reported that the EU is about to announce plans to extend Operation Atalanta, the counter-piracy naval effort off the coast of Somalia, through to 2016. EurActiv reports that the mandate for the force was set to expire at the end of this year, but is due to be extended.
"The fight against piracy is not yet won," said EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton in a recent statement. "It is vital that the international community continues to work together to stamp out piracy and consolidate the gains we have already made". [13/01/14]
