Europe could import gas from Iran via Azerbaijan

Dubai: Iran could potentially export between 25bn to 30bn cubic metres of natural gas to 12 unnamed European nations in the coming years, the deputy head of National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) says.

Iran is looking for a way to export gas to Europe by cooperating with Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan, NIGC’s Azizollah Ramezani told Iranian press this week.

Iran has the largest natural gas reserves in the world. The country exported 9.75bn cubic meters of gas and imported 6.32bn cubic metres in 2014.

Ramezani said Iran aims to increase its share of global gas trade to 10% by 2025, from the current 1.5%. [21/01/15]
