Evergreen joining CKYH on March 1

Taipei: Evergreen, Asia’s largest containerline is joining the CKYH container group. The CKYH group is made up of Asian lines, Cosco, K Line, Yang Ming and Hanjin, the latter of which has had to reduce its capacity considerably of late due to poor financial performance.

The boosting of the CKYH group is also in response to the P3 alliance, the new container grouping of the top three lines, Maersk, MSC and CMA CGM.

Evergreen has already been cooperating with CKYH, on eight Asia to northern Europe loops and four from Asia to the Mediterranean as well as having some joint dealings on the transpacific.

Evergreen will formally join the renamed group CKYHE on March 1 just on Asia-Europe trades to begin with, although there is speculation it could sign up to other tradelanes later.

The Middle East's largest liner, UASC, is understood to be negotiating entrance to this Asian super alliance too. [20/02/14]
