Ferry collides with containership off Hong Kong

Hong Kong: A cross-border ferry, carrying more than 80 passengers from Shekou in China to Hong Kong International Airport, collided with a containership off Tuen Mun amid poor visibility in heavy fog yesterday morning, local media has reported.

Fortunately the two vessels only suffered minor damage and no one was injured. After an inspection by the Marine Department, the ferry continued its journey and safely arrived at its destination. The Hong Kong-resgistered container ship remained to be held at the scene to assist investigations.

The Marine Department issued a reminder before the collision, advising vessels to proceed at a safe speed and exercise extreme caution while navigating in Hong Kong waters. [19/02/14]
