Finland braces for shipping strike this Thursday

Helsinki: Finland is bracing for a nation wide shipping strike this Thursday.

Both the Finnish Engineers’ Association and the Finnish Seafarers Union have announced their intention to join a strike this Thursday in support of a strike organised by the union members working on Finnish ice-breakers.

Icebreaker workers are in a contract dispute with employer Arctia Shipping.

Should the combined strikes go ahead, they will bring all shipping traffic sailing under the Finnish flag to a halt, including Silja and Viking Line cruiseships.
