Fire hits Sinopacific Offshore at Qidong

CIMC-controlled Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering’s Qidong yard caught fire yesterday, and a large quantity of shipbuilding materials have been destroyed by the fire.

According to a source at the yard, the materials which caught fire are used for thermal insulation in LNG tanks on vessels, and the fire didn’t damage any vessels at the yard.

The local fire department managed to contain the fire in around one hour.

This is the second fire incident at Sinopacific Offshore in the past two weeks. A 17,000 cu m ethylene carrier under constriction at Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering’s Qidong Fengshun Shipyard caught fire on March 14.
