First export of ethane from US Gulf Coast planned for August

Houston, Texas-based midstream company Enterprise Products Partners announced on Thursday that in August it will export a load of ethane, the first such shipment to depart the US Gulf Coast, according to Reuters.

The ship to take the ethane is expected to arrive by August 1 at Enterprise’s new Morgan’s Point terminal on the shores of Galveston Bay at the inlet of the Houston Ship Channel.

Ethane is in demand worldwide as a raw material for the petrochemical industry.

Enterprise’s announcement countered the less good news that eight liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cargo loadings form the terminal have been cancelled – three in July and five in August.
